Can't remove outdated MIDI destination from Project.

Post by James Steele »

So I have a VERY old project that at one time had some MIDI tracks that were direction to a Yamaha FB-01 sometime back in the late 20th century. LOL. Anyway, I have changed any MIDI tracks that might have shown FB-01 as the target to "none" or a virtual instrument. There is no FB-10 in my AMS setup. There is no FB-01 in the Bundles window as a MIDI destination. So where is this residual FB-01 device hiding in my project? Strange.

Not sure what that means? Anyway I just assigned it to a different MIDI instrument in the error dialog… but wonder what the source is.

Sorry, opaque (and admittedly unfunny) "riffing".

Like DP had an old habit of looking for that old synth.

Ahhhhhh! Now I get it!!

Yeah, it’s like DP misses it or something. No tracks were assigned to it anymore. I still own it. Maybe I’ll connect it up to the MIDI Express XT and they can have a little reunion.

By any chance, do you have NI's Absynth installed? Because as we all know, Absynth makes the app grow fonder!

Many lists would ban you for that. But probably not this one.

I have a message about a missing controller on sessions of a certain age, never clears/dismisses no matter how many new project versions are saved, no place to delete it. Annoying.

Interesting you mention it. I keep getting prompted to re-assign the Frontier Alpha Track I haven't used in perhaps a decade? I guess I could make it go away but just assigning it to a random MIDI device, but that idea just doesn't sit well with me. I'd like to know how to just get rid of whatever is "asking" for it.

Every now and then I get these ghosts from the past as well. I have a project that I call digital loopback that I use for listening to system sound through DP. It started telling me at start-up that an old Elemental Audio plugin couldn't be found, but that plugin had been removed from the project years ago. I tried making a new file using the Load command but that didn't get rid of the ghost in the machine, Finally I built a new project from scratch.

Spooky stuff, ehh? And it's not even Halloween.

Did you look in the pulldown menu in the AMS? Could old setups be haunting newer MIDI projects?

Great idea, but did a clean install on this Mac Studio about a year ago and I only have one configuration... the Default. Hmmm....

I know we're not talking about a plugin, but this free thing I posted yesterday revealed all kinds of weird stuff in my system. Have you tried it?

Yeah. I saw a post about that on Gearspace. It looks at package receipts, etc from installers. I also saw that one user said it reported plugs that weren’t installed. I really don’t have a need for it, and I think it’s a small developer and I’m kinda hesitant to use it.
