DP 11: Strange Key Command Behavior

Post by fusion58 »

Hi all:

I'm putting a new rig together w/ an Apple Mac Mini M2 Pro running DP 11.21 (upgrade from DP 9.5) on Mac OS Ventura 13.2.1.

A strange behavior I'm encountering in all of my projects is that the space bar doesn't function as it should, i.e., doesn't control playback stop/start.

Instead, the "Enter" key triggers playback start and the numeric "0" key triggers playback stop.

Oddly enough, I'm not experiencing this phenomenon outside of DP 11. The space bar functions as it should when stopping and starting YouTube videos, etc.

I checked DP's key command list, and the space bar is configured as it should be, i.e., to control stop/start.

I checked and rechecked all my keyboard settings in Mac System Settings and nothing appears to be amiss.

I'm using a standard Apple wired keyboard.

Has anyone else run into this issue? Definitely a head scratcher! :-|

Sounds like you've checked everything. I had a COMMAND glitch recently that resolved itself.

You might try resetting the COMMAND play/stop toggle, and see if it resets.

Thanks.

Actually, I just stumbled upon a fix while troubleshooting another, non-DP-related problem:

Go to Systems settings --> Accessibility --> Keyboard --> toggle "full keyboard access" off.

Now the space bar is functioning normally in DP.

Good call. Mine was already off (hence my spacebar was working normally). Thanks for following up.

Ran into this exact problem today on a new Mac Studio with Ventura OS. Turning off Full Keyboard Access solved it here, too. Interestingly, when FKA was on, the spacebar didn't work ANYWHERE in DP including anywhere text could be entered. But, now it's fine. Whew!!!

running DP 11.21
DP 11.22 is a major bug fix and I recommend that you update. Obviously, DP 11.21 is not the cause of this issue but there are others.

Full Keyboard Access should default to Off but I noticed that some of my System defaults changed in the Ventura 13.2.1 update—all of my Sound panels had Mute checked On — what the…??? That took a bit of swearing before I finally noticed.

Anyway, Full Keyboard Access is a misleading name. It lets you control everything from the keyboard (in theory) without a mouse or trackpad. It's designed for certain power users and as an aid to those with certain handicaps including mine. Although I was involved with it, I don't use it. There's a lot more functionality than this screen shot indicates.
