4K Touchscreen Monitor?

Post by James Steele »

Okay... my mind is racing trying to think of a way to incorporate this into my studio. Poor man's Slate Raven? No guarantees it would even work, and not sure returning it would be very easy, either. I'm sure it wouldn't support multi-touch, but seems like MAYBE it could do a fader at a time... who knows? I'm just geeking out trying to think of a justification! $289.

"Not guaranteed to work with all devices". Compatibility "apple", but doesn't specify Macs, or OS versions. Reviews on;y mention PCs and it's inconsistent there. All Sales final. Where's my 10 foot barge pole?

Hahaha... yeah... I didn't see "All Sales Final"... no way would I do that. Only if it were on Amazon or something where it was easily returnable. There was one review where a guy said it worked with his MacBook Pro, but not with his iPad. But yeah... no returns means no purchase. :shake:

Hey James!

Do you own an iPad? If so, you can use that as your touchpad monitor.
When I'm working while I'm on the road, that's what I use.

Kwiz, how is that working? the built in support for using the iPad as a second monitor disables most touch screen abilities.

I have two iPads and they are BOTH very old. Gen 1 and Gen 2.   I'm all tapped out (and then some) after getting the Mac Studio, so I'll have to hold off on that for a bit! :)

I got one of these last year:

https://mpmidi.com

Unfortunately, I never really got it to work completely in my setup because it requires a second HDMI video output from the computer, and all my video is extended from a machine room, so very problematic.

The reason I bring it up here is because to make the touch part of it work on a Mac, I had to purchase a special piece of software, called UPDD Commander by Touch Base. It wasn't expensive, as I recall. I had to have it because with Catalina, or maybe it was Big Sur and up, Apple changed the way touchscreen devices interact with the Mac, so it apparently broke a lot of stuff. I don't know how guys like Slate Digital handled it, but I do know you had to have this controller or something like it, to have generic touchscreens work on a Mac. But it's been nearly a year now since I checked.. maybe that's changed?

It is utter nonsense we can't get touch support on our monitors in Mac OS. I've revisited this subject time and time again to my utter disbelief. They've had this on PC for years and it is awesome. You can't even find info on this subject on the web. Come on Apple & MOTU. What the heck?!! It's 2022. We demand high quality multitouch interaction on all our displays now. Get with the program already.

Michael,

I've been using Duet Display for years. It still works for doing minor touch screen functions.
Matter of fact, I'll be in a hotel room tomorrow using it with my 2019 MBP.
It can be a bit laggy but it's better than nothing...LOL
