Good to see the 12.6 reports. I had meant to launch the updater before shutting down last night, but forgot. As people are saying it's a quick one, I guess I'll run it now while doing dinner.

It actually took me a while on my Mac Studio. Not sure why, but it involved a few automatic restarts and I just tried to be patient and not panic. So in my case it wasn't particularly quick, but I guess the YMMV caveat applies. Everything appears to be working just fine though.

No idea what's going on, after two restarts and three retries. It stalls at the "Preparing macOS Monterey 12.6..." step, with no user feedback, either 30 or 25 minutes remaining, and no progress, feedback, or errors after another hour or so.

I did some research on-line and see that others are having problems with the installer, but I can't find a way to do this manually. I know Mike wrote about it years ago but I doubt I'll re-find his hints on where the direct link is for the updaters.

I am on 12.5.1 so I don't know why the Software Update tool isn't working. Never had that happen before, in my entire history of using macOS! I can't find it on the App Store as the instructions don't match how the App Store currently works. It fails to find Monterey, and there is no Download tab or Applications shortcut on the left sidebar.

I guess it's just super-slow and no longer gives feedback. The "Preparing..." progress bar is now a bit further to the right, 45 minutes later. Almost two hours so far; I am used to the computer rebooting fairly early in the process.

I had shut down all external drives and devices, and all apps, before this latest try, and only launched one no-history non-preferred browser app to search for discussions regarding this updater. At this point, I may as well log back into work and continue working my day job.

Ugh... I'm sorry to hear you're going through that. I'm assuming you're backed up if worst comes to worst. Updating mine computer didn't take as long, perhaps because of how fast the internal SSD is on the Mac Studio, but I can tell you there were more than a couple times I had a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach as it seemed the progress bar was not moving, but it eventually finished. It's not like once it's underway you feel like you have many options. I was scared to death to hold down the power button to force it to shut down, not knowing if it would boot up again if I interrupted the process. I'm guessing Apple is smart enough to have designed these computers that booting into Recovery mode is possible even after an interrupted upgrade?

Sometimes when I'm paranoid I'll put a sticky note or something on the screen with the edge of aligned with the progress bar so I can actually see when it's moving. But yeah... mine took quite a lot longer than I expected as well.

Everything seems fine now. I waited until I had launched DP and worked on a project before coming back here to post. I can't yet tell if things are faster or slower, but my first impression is that some of the sluggishness I have experienced since upgrading to Monterey, was diminished by this update.

It did eventually go through the reboot cycle a couple of times. I'm just used to that happening earlier in the update.

I updated my M1 MacBook Air today, no issues, using the approach I recommend: take a nap while updating is underway. Your body and mind will both thank you.

I'm so glad you got through it. Yeah... I had a few of those reboots and it felt different than previous updates in how long it took. Like I said, I had a few sinking feeling moments where I was worried it was "stuck." This one takes some patience.

Sorry if I led some to believe this update was quick and painless. I am usually cautious about updates, and felt this one was less painful than usual. Naps for everyone.

Yeah... the topic was created prior to 12.6 being released... I suppose I could edit it.
