Nothing to add to this really. I listened to a lot of hardcore punk produced in 8 hours back in my teenager years, but the performances in some cases still stand up today. The drums are a mess, but 8 tracks in 8 hours is what is is. I remember in the beginning of the backlash to the loudness war there was a Paul McCartney track used as an example of good dynamics, that I completely utterly disagreed with, the snare was visibly much much louder than it should be. As an amateur producer I've under mixed heavy music, I'm not saying it should be killed like the Metallica St. Anger example, but going back I realized I was way too hesitant to master heavier dense music properly.

IMO mastering professionals will always do a better job, but not everyone can afford thousands of dollars to master their project band. It sucks that people are being deluded by YouTube shills into thinking they now know more or as much as someone whose done it professionally for 30 years, but this is not uncommon with pretty much everything now, look at all the medical experts out there these days.

I had the same thought. The problem appears across a lot of fields. Software for one.

Yeah, I hear ya. I just ordered my transplant kit from alibaba.com. Got a great deal but who knows what quality the kidney in the kit will be. You just don't know what you're getting with these imports. Will let you know how it goes.

Is it a "professional" MIDI liver pack?

On a completely different note, do you think Sylvia Massy is a genius or just a wack job?

I'll go with genius. Some of those recordings like System of a Down are pristine. Plus I owned that compilation record of American undergound bands she produced, Rat Music for Rat People as a teenager. My first serious band Systems Collapse did at least four shows with the Beatnigs who she also produced etc.

Where's the whack job part come in?

Folks, please forgive me. I thought that I had posted this in the "off topic" section. I just now realized I must have clicked on the wrong forum. Sorry, James.

It's a pisstake obviously. When she "uses" it on the Melvins guitar solo as a gate she can barely keep a straight face.

I've seen a couple of videos where she attaches a garden hose to the end of a microphone (using a funnel or something). She's used it on drums and piano that I know of. I guess creative genius requires a little bit of whack job. So, my vote on genius or whack job - yes.
