What a disappointment to see all the spam here. Is anyone moderating?

Yes. James has been doing what he can. It seemed like he had it taken care of for a few days there, but the last few hours have been brutal. He must have stepped away from his post for just a bit. Jeez, what PIA

Someone is, but the one person that does it is not on duty 7/24.

We have the same problem over at Rig Talk.

Reports submitted accompanied by lengthy complaints about spam when threads have existed only for minutes.

We try to explain that the mods can't react immediately 24/7. Between my time zone in Oz and the US boys we do a pretty-good job of it 'though and it's rare for a spammer's thread to last more than a few hours at best.

Doesn't stop peeps complaining 'though.

Exactly right.

I think most of us here are grown-ups, right? When you see what you know to be spam from the subject line, don't click on it. It's a much bigger inconvenience for the mod to remove three pages of it, than it is for you to simply ignore it. I've never seen it last more than a few hours here anyway.

Well, I use an RSS client to follow MN where the spam posts aren't deleted when James deletes them, so it's a little more of a drag for some of us than you describe.

Yes. I do the best I can. I have a Google ReCAPTCHA on the log-in page. ONE spammer got though and posted 141 posts yesterday. Fortunately, it is just one operation to delete all posts from one users. Happy to see people waste no time complaining though. If it's a problem see Doris in Accounting for a full refund.

FYI, this was posted in the wrong forum. Moved.

I do my best. As always I suggest anybody who can do it better is free to go to phpBB.com and start your own MOTU-related board and then try to run it perfection in your spare time when you're not running a business. I had a brutal week in my "day gig" and thus the spam that the original poster posted, was allowed to linger for ALMOST a day as they registered yesterday. It's all gone now.

As always, all are invited to contact Doris in Accounting for a full refund. I do the best I can.

The internet always just blows my mind. Not talking about your comment, dix, but the "we want it now, we want it fast, we want it delivered flawlessly and oh yes, we want it free" attitude always amazes me.

Sorry. I’m definitely not complaining, James. I was just responding to the point that my the spam is easy to ignore.

If Doris were to setup a Patreon. I bet some of us would be happy to contribute a few $ each month….Even if you did (er, she did :))I wouldn’t expect any change in the level of service, which is consistently excellent.

As always. Thanks for keeping this forum awesome.

I appreciate that. However, not all people would feel the same, so one of the primary reasons I don't accept any donations is that I don't want to raise expectations and have the sort of obligation hanging over me that happens when you accept money.

I used to do that. I think you could probably do the same thing I do now: read the stuff you're interested in, then "mark all as read".

There's no real way to find stuff I'm interested in on the RSS feed when the spammers are active. I can just use the MN website when it happens though, np. The website works fine, I just prefer RSS.
