Cleaning a Neumann U87

Post by gavspen »

Hi,

Has anyone ever sent their 25+ year old, presumably dust and spit covered (ewww!) U87 in for a cleaning/service? If so, did it make any difference to the way it sounded?

Thanks,
Gavin

Seems like that could, and possibly should be a thing. I don't own any swanky mics, and even the cheap 4033 I use mostly has a pop filter up for vox.

A quick search does show some YT vids of capsule cleaning. So it is a thing.

It is a thing for sure. Sennheiser (which I guess bought Neumann at some point?) told me so. Just wondering if anyone has personal experience. Not sure what made me think of it, but after all this time, it must be filthy. Haha.

Michael... that's a comment that seems to pertain to a keyboard and not a microphone. Some of your posts have been seeming like just excuses to make posts and thus promote a link in your sig perhaps? I'm wondering if this is some sort of AI thing that "just missed" the subject matter and made the keyboard reference in a microphone post by mistake. I'm getting close to deleting your account unless I get some clarity via a private message. Thanks.

Some of his musescore "Arrangements" are copyrighted scores, and there's this:

Yikes. It was a wise philosopher who appeared on the television news that once said "Ain't nobody got time for that!" He's bounced and posts deleted.
