Need High Sierra 10.13

Post by galacticanthems »

The link on the app store says this: "This copy of the Install macOS High Sierra.app application is damaged, and can‘t be used to install macOS."

So where can I get this upgrade? It's the last upgrade I can do on my 2010 iMac. Thanks

I'm sure it'd still be available as a legal torrent ('cause the software's free).

You want v10.13.6 BTW.

I could give you the installer but I don't have file-sharing abilities except for much-smaller ones.

MOTU DP8.07, MachFive 3.2.1, MIDI Express XT, 24I/O

You're a genius, Brother Sir Markus.

I tend to give up long before I manage to find something buried deep within the bowels of the Apple site/s.

We don't know how Sir Markus knows what he knows, but we are grateful for it!

As much as I hate to demystify my "special" abilities, it's usually Google. :smash:

Maybe not. High Sierra was the last Apple OS supported for MacPro4,1 and 5,1, but a friend of mine to whom I gave a 2008 4,1 was able to install a Mojave hack (and told me about it). I've installed the hack on my 2012 5,1 so that I could use the current version of NI Kontakt Komplete. Other than not being able to use one VI (Massive X, which requires a newer GPU), my unsupported OS has been working beautifully.

It might work on your iMac, too.

Open Core will likely allow more current versions of macOS to be installed.

I have a MacPro4,1 8-core that was converted to a MacPro5,1 12-core and I'm running Mojave on it. I was happy on High Sierra, but I had the opportunity to be a ProTools perpetual license from a guy for half off ($300) but the latest ProTools requires Mojave as a minimum... so I first had to get a Metal compatible GPU and then I upgraded. I'm pretty sure I will stay here on this machine as I'm pretty sure it's the last MacOS that lets you run 32 bit apps and I'm still using MOTU PCIe hardware and I want to be able to run the various ancillary apps like PCI Setup, CueMix, etc. which are 32 bit for the versions that work with PCIe hardware.

Overall though I'm quite happy on Mojave. Performance seems about the same. 32 Lives still works on Mojave so I can use some old wrapped 32-bit plugs including the ancient LiquidMix AU plug which I've even figured out a way to use in the latest ProTools. Although I got Console 1 recently and can probably ditch Liquid Mix already.

And Metal is fantastic. Screen redraws are blazing fast and Window Sets just pop back and forth nearly instantaneously. I'm running a 4K 43" Samsung TV in gaming mode as my main monitor now and still using my old 23" Cinema Display as a secondary monitor.

That's interesting for me to read. Adobe and Apple "deprecated" support for OpenCL which coincided with Mojave. That forced Adobe Premiere users to use Metal on builds since 2020, which on Premiere and my computer is demonstrably inferior to OpenCL (One can invoke a console in Pr and look at the number of frames dropped in playback. Metal drops twice as many as OpenCL in my testing.).

So James, I'm curious to know which GPU you installed.

Well I should say, that my rave review regarding Metal really is only based on how responsive the Digital Performance interface feels, most noticeably when changing from one window set to another.

The GPU I am using is an AMD Radeon 7950.
