cutting ADAT cables

Post by Jim »

Do any of you have experience with ADAT light pipes? I have two 10' "cables," but I only need about one foot. Rather than dangle a mess in back, can I pull the cable from the little connector, cut the cable, and shove the cable back into the connector, and have it still function properly?

The long cables are working now, and I don't want to risk cutting them to find out this won't work if I don't have to.

Easily done. Remember that you're cutting a piece of glass. What tool to use depends on the diameter—thin cable can be cut with scissors or diagonal cutters but there are specialized tools out there as well as short cables. Google is your friend.

Mike, I did Google before I posted here. I only found info on other types of fiber that use different jacks than ADAT. But, thanks for your reply. I think buying new cables will be the safest and fastest option. They're not that expensive, anyway.

I was going to suggest buying a new cable...

1.5 ft is $4.99

Depending on what area you are in, a good 'builder' computer store would have them too. When I travel to the Bay Area, Central Computers is my friend for TOSLINK and USB cables-- which I invariably need. :D

Good luck!
