Ensoniq DP/4 Editor for the iPad - a labor of love.

Post by CharlzS »

Anyone with an Ensoniq DP/4 out there - something to check out: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/idp-4/id1526481455
I changed the battery and was just about to put my DP/4 up on eBay when I discovered this little gem in the app store after one last search. Hard to believe this app came out in December 2020 given the age of the unit. It may be a little pricey at $31.00, but it's all it says it is. The DP/4 is a little challenging to program from the front panel. I had kept an old G4 Power Book around to program it with Unisyn, but that got old quick and the DP/4 went unused for years. I just sent the G4 to recycle. I use the iPad in the studio for a few other apps so this works out perfectly - new life for a great sounding unit.

That's really cool. I don't have a DP4, but I remember them. They've been discussed off and on many times. They fall into that category of under-rated and unique "character" devices.

I don't use my Lexicon MPX-1 much lately (I sold my first one, then missed it and got another). I won't make that mistake again-- it's not fun to edit, but perhaps an editor will ease that pain.

Amazing! I haven’t used it for for a very long time, but I still have a DP/4. It did some nice things I’ve never been able to replicate with plug-ins. A logical price given the small, finite number of potential customers, but I’m not not likely go for it. Good to know it’s out there if I need it though. …looks like it works with M1 Macs too.

Thanks for posting!

That's very cool! I had one for a short while years ago for a job and flipped it after the job, but wish I kept it. It had some unique sounds. I saw one floating around used recently. Maybe I'll reconsider. :)
