I just checked hard drive pricing on Amazon: you know that $139 8TB Seagate External? It is now priced at $199.

Although probably not directly impacting said HD pricing, the cold weather blackouts in Texas didn't help chip availability...
Over the next three days, blackouts plagued the state... Samsung’s fab outside of Austin shut down on the morning of February 16. The facility lost 71,000 wafers to the disruption, costing the company at least $268 million. It took Samsung more than a month to bring it back online. Power was cut to NXP’s fab the next day. The company also lost a month of production, and it estimated that the outage cost it $100 million.

Hmmm... not unlike when that plant in Thailand blew up a dozen or more years ago. Turned out they made HDDs for everybody at the time.

Interesting timing as well, as Apple owning their new chip may have protected them a bit from an immediate impact on the availability and pricing of their just-released new models.

I just got hit by this, having finally decided not to wait any longer to buy a MixPre-10 II now that I have been able to verify that it supports all of my recording and overdub scenarios and therefore would allow me to sell my True Precision TP8 pre-amp (the mic pre's in the MixPre series are said to be as good or better and are likewise transformerless).

The price has gone up in the past few weeks and availability is almost nil. Not sure if the price change is permanent and/or will continue upward, as inflation seems to be back, so I'm not sure whether to "wait it out" a bit or to try to find a confident purchase that isn't lying about "in stock".

I'm pretty sure I'd start using it within two weeks of buying it -- especially as I'm confident of how to switch over current workflows. But it's not essential other than allowing me to get completely away from the poor ergonomics and visibility of rack gear.
