Uninstall 10.1

Post by AGM »

I have not been observant in installing updates and I now have 10.1 and 10.11 installed on Win10. I would like to uninstall 10.1 - will I damage the 10.11 install? Should I uninstall both and reinstall 10.11?
And should I always uninstall previous versions when updates come out. I find it strange that DP doesn't do update in place for .01 update?

There are a lot of files that are common to both versions so uninstalling one should require the reinstallation of the other. I had the same scenario and uninstalled both then reinstalled 10.11 and so far don't have any issues. Going forward I plan to uninstall before installing any updates/upgrades to avoid multiple versions.

Totally unnecessary. If you have not renamed the app, the next install will overwrite — doesn’t matter if an older or newer version. If you did rename the app, just drag it to the trash—again, it doesn’t matter if before or after the latest installation.

Not the same for Windows. For whatever reason, this time the MOTU 10.11 installer installs a separate version rather than updating the existing install.

Aha - DP10.0 and 10.1 refuse to uninstall. I think because they haven't got access to the original install executable because I have deleted them. I have downloaded the closest I could get form the MOTU site but they can't be close enough as uninstall still fails.
I have tried the MS uninstall tool. No joy. In the past I have used Revouninstall - I just can't believe it would be this difficult, painful even.
How naive I am!

It may seem counterintuitive, but install the version you downloaded from MOTU and then immediately uninstall. Start with the oldest one first. I think that's how I got around this. I had the same issue.

I was going off this from your signature.

Thanks CharlzS - Smart move. I didn't think of that, but the MOTU CrippleHammer (shout out to Camera Conspiracies!) beat me too it. The installer wouldn't let me install a version that was already installed. Just too good for me.

I downloaded IO Bit uninstaller 9 - which is a free download and it did the business. I also logged a tech issue at MOTU to see what advice they came up with.

Thanks for your patience gents.

Yeah, but the topic was in a Windows forum.

Just to confirm your insight CharlzS - here is the reply from MOTU

-------------
Thanks for reaching out. I think the uninstaller needs to see the original installer.exe for the respective version.

So for instance, when uninstalling DP 10.1, you need to manually point the uninstaller program to the DP 10.1.exe installer. All of these can be found here:

https://motu.com/download/download_matc ... oduct_id=1

--------------
The moral of the story is don't delete your DP installer! My installed version of 10.1 didn't match the version of 10.1 available on the website so I ended up using the IObit uninstaller again. Is it just me or is this is all a bit pants!?
