Movies in DP much darker than QuickTime

Movies appear much darker when played within DP than from QuickTime. Is the case for everyone? I'm working on a film with particularly dark images and I literally can't make out what's happening unless I check out the QT.

Jacking up the contrast on the monitor helps a little, but even at the brightest setting it's not as bright as if I played the movie on a monitor with default settings in the Finder.

Anyone else see this? Any suggestions?

Good ol' (Catalina-incompatible) QT7 Pro allows exporting of movies with adjusted brightness and contrast settings, so that will get me through this dark project...although it took over 2 hours to export a 30 min movie!

Can someone currently working to picture please confirm (or not) that movies appear darker when playing in DP than they do from Quicktime? The best way to do this would be to go to a darker section of whatever you're working on in DP and then compare that with the same spot (same timecode) on the same movie playing from Quicktime. Before I create a TechLink I'd like to know if it's just me or not.

Thanks!

It depends on which monitor I use. If I use my 30" Apple Cinema display they're fine. On my Viewsonics they're darker, but not by much.

Thanks!

I actually didn't check other projects before posting my OP (Sry). Other project's DP videos look fine, leading me to believe the codec or formatting on this particular project is screwy. It looks like the dark one uses "Canon H.264", the other "AVC"...??? Anyway, I believe this can be addressed by the picture editor.

Thanks again for checking MLC! Your response prompted me to troubleshoot further to arrive at where I am.

Reexporting would have been my suggestion. iSkysoft is my go to for all such issues.
