Talent scouting for noise-based audio editors...
Curious question:
The company I work for is looking to hire a full-time professional audio editor. My boss has asked me for some leads, but I'll admit I don't do a lot of networking outside MOTUNation these days. I know many of you are already employed and in different fields, so this post isn't so much a hiring flyer as a "where should I look?" question.
Our company produces high quality White Noise Generator sounds for sleep. No music. It's all synthetic-based noise ambiances and nature field recordings (rain, ocean waves, etc). A large portion of the work entails going through 10-20min recordings in great detail, editing out subtle sonic events that could possibly bother listeners with insomnia. It's very detail-oriented work, I spend upwards 2-3 hours to edit a ~10minute static noise track.
Surprisingly, I'm just not in contact with non-music-based audio production networks. If anyone knows some good forums or mailing lists, that would be a good place to start. That said, if anyone here is interested and feels like they have the time and skillset for this type of work, go ahead and PM me.

Is this a location based position or a commute from home thing? If location based, what city?

Apologies, I guess that should have been made clear. It's completely remote. Owner is based out of LA, I'm currently in Hawaii but could be anywhere. Same for any contract hire. We've contracted with people in Alaska, Oregon, Pennsylvania, etc.MIDI Life Crisis wrote:Is this a location based position or a commute from home thing? If location based, what city?

The secret is you put yourself partway to sleep. Then if something wakes you, you edit it, roll over and try to drift off again. Rinse (with soothing ocean waves) and repeat. (what? no "yawn" smilie?)

Much of the music I work on could, at least be some, be categorized as noise. I may thus be highly qualified! Then again, that "noisic" isn't necessarily sleep-inducing.
I bet you find someone great right here Dr. Mover.
