Back in the day I was at a Lilli Krauss concert when the stage hands decided to lower a Steinway D down in the pit on an elevator. Only problem was that half of the casters were still on the stage. The piano tumbled upside down into the pit. I'll never forget that sound. It could have wakened the long dead.

Thanks for scaring the •••• out of me... I was sure Bruce Dickinson had kicked the bucket. Either that or Iron Maiden was touring with the late-80s Thrash band.

Re: Death and the Maiden
Worst story of that type I ever heard: Efram Zimbalist Jr. had bought one of Josef Hofmann's two 1932 custom made Steinways. Besides being built with narrower keys for his small hands, these were the first to incorporate the Steinway Accelerated Action that Hofmann helped invent.
Anyway, as I heard it, the piano dropped from a crane at some point during the move to Zimbalist's apartment around 40 years ago. Since both of his parents had performed with Hofmann, that must have been sad on many levels.
Its twin was destroyed in a fire.

Yeah that story has made the rounds for sure, and it's awful.
From the topic headline, I thought this was going to be a link to some awe-inspiring performance of Schubert's string quartet.

The primary member/writer for Death has been deceased for quite some time, ironically enough.Prime Mover wrote:Thanks for scaring the •••• out of me... I was sure Bruce Dickinson had kicked the bucket. Either that or Iron Maiden was touring with the late-80s Thrash band.
