He's an ape supremacist.

On the getting-smarter thing, I'd argue that we're in fact not doing so, the universal law of entropy being what it is. The impression created by technological advancements is just that IMHO - an impression. Wherever we collectively focus our endeavours we'll see this illusion's being fed; it's just common sense, which as we all know, isn't exactly as common as it used to be.

Oooooh... invoking the Second Law of Thermodynamics. Does James allow such sexy talk on these boards?

James'll have to deal with it, Mike.
MIDI Life Crisis wrote:Wait, entropy is a law of a theory?
It's an inescapable truth. Everything oxidises, falls apart, spins down, cools down, slows down, breaks down, thereby shifting from "order" to "disorder".

Only ordered, "intelligent" energy input can counter the phenomenon, and even then, it's a mug's game that we've no option but to play. We tidy the house and brush our hair knowing that it'll be for nought before long.

This is why a legit perpetual-motion machine will never be invented; it'd have to circumvent this law of nature, operating somehow in a frictionless environment and in defiance of the natural tendency towards disorder.
