Deleting "missing" plug in automation

Post by ghobish »

In the Sequence Editor, Is there a simple way of deleting all the automation lanes of a missing plug in from an old session? Or do I have to do each lane one by one? (I don't want to delete all automation data because not all the plugs are "missing.")

Select a single occurrence of the data and double click. All points should select, then just hit delete. That also works on all data, including notes.

If you want to get fancy, you can use the search and select feature to delete specific types of data.

Or you could just call a friend... lol ;)

That does streamline the one-by-one lane removal process.

Thanks, stranger. (Who was that masked man?)

It would be nice if there were some way to show the audio automation you want in a single window, as with MIDI, and perform operations on the revealed types of automation data, only. The MIDI Editor does this, and always has, but no such feature that I know of for the Sequence Editor. Yes, that would be nice, indeed.

Even working in MIDI, it's not always easy. Those little lines of data get so tangled and confusing, so quickly if you deal with more than a few of them. Even if their icons are easily identifiable and contrasting, I find that about 4 strings of automation are all I can handle at once, visible in the editor, and if they are similar in values, even that's too many. Maybe going lane by lane isn't so bad, after all. But for erasing a lot of plugin data, it does seem like there should be an easier way.

Did you try using search?

Edit -> New Search

Time: All Time
Event Attribute: Event Type -> Choose

You'll get a big window w/ every conceivable data type in DP. Pick and choose all the kinds of automation you want to delete, search, and then delete them.

In this case, it might be easier to specify which ones you want to preserve using the "All Except"

Hope that helps!
