Hi,
I'm enhancing audio for a video and then wanting to bounce it with movie. The original .mov file is 1.2 GB, high res video (with bad sound). I've replaced and synced the audio with a much better radio broadcast. The issue is when I BTD the .mov file comes out at 4.8 MB. Surely that can't be of good quality.
My question is: is there a way of having DP render the QT file at a higher resolution? I don't see any options for that.
Thanks!
Joel

Re: Export movie at higher resolution?
I score and bounce movies all the time. Some are archival copies for online distribution, so resolution is critical. What comes out of my Mac goes into iSkysoft video convertor to fine tune for the clients, then it goes online. The producers have never complained.
Unless I'm missing something, the resolution of the output movie is the same as the source movie. DP doesn't 'dumb down' resolution, AFAIK, so the claim is surprising. Again, AFAIK, there is no way to change the resolution within DP. The only things I generally see as an option when bouncing a movie out of DP is "include film scoring events" (or not). I don't use those on these projects and go with whatever the default is.
I don't believe DP used the QTime engine, which is why we have no control over movie bounces. And, of course, none of this helps you with your problem.
If I had the issue and had to get the work out, I'd bounce or real-time record the audio (almost always just a simple BTD). Then I'd resent in some other program, such as Final Cut or other "pro-ish" app.

Re: Export movie at higher resolution?
Thanks MLC,
I don't remember how to attach a graphic to these posts to show you, but there it is: MOV 1.22 GB, BTD MOV 4.8 MB. That's some fancy compression if they're the same. It makes sense what you're saying - use a pro video editing program to do this, but I don't remember this as an issue back in 2011 when I scored an indie feature (DP... 6? 7???). It was as you said - video in - video out. I just haven't done this in ages, don't have a FCP (or know how to use it), and thought it would be pretty straightforward to bounce as video. ARGH...

Re: Export movie at higher resolution? Solved!
Never mind! Never underestimate my own stupidity. It seems I thought I had selected the complete file and bounced. Seems I only selected a portion...
FYI: It DID reduce the file size from 1.22 GB to 1.14 GB.
Best,
Joel

Re: Export movie at higher resolution?
The reduction in the size may be due to the replaced sound track. If you are working in 44.1k that would be one reason for a smaller file. Glad it was user error. LOL
