Hello,
I am working on Digital Performer 9 of Windows. My OS is Windows 10
I imported a MIDI file as a sequence.
I'm in Tracks and at the top right below Seq-1, I select this MIDI file.
When I press play, I hear no sound. Yet in Sequence, after selecting PolySynth-1 in the 3rd field of the MIDI track and clicking on a virtual piano key, I hear a sound.
Why can not I play the MIDI file?
thanks
no sound when reading a MIDI file

Re: no sound when reading a MIDI file
I'm on Mac OS, but the first thing to do is make sure you have instruments available-- instrument tracks (Virtual Instruments) or external devices (like attached external MIDI synths). The second thing is to assign a MIDI destination for each MIDI track (in the output assign column of the sequence). That will include both a device/VI and a channel (usually). The third thing is to make sure the VI is playing-- which it sounds like you have checked and confirmed.
And to make sure that the sequence you want to hear is play - enabled. It usually is, but you can confirm by opening the chunks window.

Re: no sound when reading a MIDI file
DP won’t take a GM file and just assign instruments to it. As stated above, you have to tell DP what instruments to use which means setting up virtual instruments or routing to external devices.
I haven’t done any general MIDI work in decades but I believe you can open it in QuickTime if you have it on your pc and perhaps there’s some pc equivalent app for a quick and dirty playback.
