Magic Dave no longer at MOTU

Post by James Steele »

Wow. This is big news. I heard a rumor and went by Magic Dave's (Dave Roberts) Facebook profile and his employer is now listed as "Wildlife Acoustics, Inc." I don't know if you'll see this, Magic One, but you will sorely be missed.

Whatever the case, that is one of my passions, so I'm glad to hear he's working there, whether or not still at MOTU as well.

We've had a few guest speakers here over the past few years, who specialize in acoustical research as it pertains to nature, noise pollution, and ecosystem niches.

Oh man... I hope that's the case. I'll take this down if that's the case.

I only saw his Facebook profile which lists only his new position beginning 3/19 as Technical Writer and Video Producer at Wildlife Acoustics, Inc. MOTU isn't listed. I will feel bad if I ran with an unfounded rumor.

(I've added question marks at the end of the subject header until we know for sure.)

I don't want to say it's for sure, but this (from his Facebook) seems to look convincing:

The time comes for everyone when the urge to move on is the one you follow. Dave may still work at MOTU, but either way, he has found another niche that fascinates him and pays the bills, and I am happy for him it that's what he wants. Thanks for all the great years of riding this incredible studio in a box with us, Dave.

Yep. And I have to say that I've gotten the inside scoop from a couple of sources and Dave is not working at both places. He has indeed left MOTU and begun a new chapter. We wish you all the best, Magic Dave.

Well, then that is too bad. And not just because of his valuable contributions here. Off hand I can think of two separate high-pressure, deadline situations where he saved my butt via phone support by patiently, methodically walking me through the steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issues, when other MOTU techs were at a loss. ...Both times I remember thinking, knowing it was MD, man, this guy is overqualified to be doing phone tech-support!

Wow—this is big. I received a reply to a MOTU TechLink from him as recently as 2/23. He was always helpful. Nothing is forever (I learned that from running my production company for 22 years), but I wonder who at MOTU will step in to fill his shoes.

I think everyone who thinks Magic Dave is fantastic... or even MAGIC... should tell him so here:

viewtopic.php?f=26&t=64659

I think after all he has done to help DP and MOTU hardware users over his 24 years, he deserves a topic and a send off with this community's thanks. Please post your stories and great memories of the Magic One and what he meant to you personally during his tenure at MOTU! I'm closing this particular topic now. Again... let's take our well wishes and thanks over here:
