Device Main setup advice on mk4

I have an Ultralite mk4 18x22. I send the 2 main outs to a Mackie Big Knob. I also use pro DAW software I/O and audio player software.
I saw this MOTU tip:

Pls help me understand the device setup...
Mixer setup, Number of inputs ?? of 48
Computer Setup, device to computer ?? of 64
computer to device ?? of 64
I disabled optical and S/Pdif I/O.
Do I want 18 inputs to match the 18 input channels of the mk4?
and 22 for both computer setup options?
Can I get away with fewer out channels since I don't plan to use other analog outs on the back of the mk4?
