DP 9.5 issues?

I'm starting a job for which I'm needing to do a bunch of time stretching / pitching. I figured it might be a good time to jump from DP 9.02 to 9.5 since they now have the ZTX stretching etc.

Does anyone know of any compatibly issues between 9.5 and various plugins / VIs?... Especially NI, Spectrasonics, Output, VSL VEPro 5, Waves, Altiverb, Soundtoys, Fabfilter, Ohm Force, Audio Damage, etc.

thanks!

I get consistent crash-on-quits and almost always Waves comes up by name in the crash report. I'm in the middle of a classic stalemate between Waves and MOTU though, so nothing is getting done (that I know of). Other than that, no problems. You can have both versions installed and jump back if you see any issues.

I removed all things Waves from my system several years ago. Solved many problems, especially crashes. I think DP has crashed twice in 4-5 years and usually right after an update. It's like a ritual. Install. One crash. Reset PRAM. No more crashes, and certainly no Waves crap installed ever again. Used to also repair permissions but that no longer is a thing AFAIK.

I think Shooshie might have something to say about this. BTW, Phil, how's the stab wound?

Don't have a clue what you're referencing there.

9.51? No problem. OS 10.13.1 gave me a couple of hitches:

I had the license server error once with 9.51 and High Sierra — weird because I had trashed the older Dock shortcut and reset it to 9.51. Removing 9.5 and reinstalling 9.51 fixed that (they do share resources). Other than that, smooth sailing here.

Even older plugs that need 32Lives still work. According to SoundRadix, they’re not supposed to. I tried reinstalling a few that I had removed earlier as a test and 32L is unable to wrap new ones. JBridge no longer works at all. I’ll live.

I'm running DP9.51 successfully using MOTU, Waves, NI, Spectrasonics, Synthogy, Soundtoys, AudioEase (Altiverb), IK, UA, Eventide and more.

Before you install 9.51, rename DP9.02 to "DP9.02"; that way it won't be overwritten and you can use it if you encounter issues. I have noted and reported to MOTU issues with older projects improperly converting pitch data when opened in 9.5 and 9.51. Otherwise, 9.51 has been pretty stable for me. I've had maybe two crashes in a week+ of solid use.

Likewise. I've been running it under beta version of 10.13, 10.13.1, and now the release version of 10.13.1. Not a hitch. My system hasn't flipped out even once in the last month.

Not quite on topic, but since I just discovered it in DP9.5, can anyone clear this up for me:

On looking a the new "Effect Performance" window, where I can (very usefully!) see the relativee processor drain made by each VI / plugin, it appears as though all my DISABLE plugins are still using processor (especially Soundtoys Decapitator). Is it true then that, even when disabled, plugins are using up processor power?...

thanks

If, by "disabled", you mean bypassed but still instantiated within a track that is not truly disabled (un-check the round blue button that completely turns off a DP track), yes.

Plugins must continuously process audio to allow turning bypass on and off (manually or using mix automation) without glitches. As such, even when bypassed, plugins use CPU horsepower.

If you want to kill the CPU hit, disable the track in question using the round blue button. But don't expect the track to come back to life during playback without some audible disruption.
