The Micro Express can be used standalone. The Micro Lite needs a Mac or PC to work. HOWEVER, if you have the Micro Express as the main MIDI interface, can you then plug in a Micro Lite without a computer and have it work as an expansion?

Where would it get its power from? I believe both units are powered via the USB bus. (No power is sent over MIDI cables, if that's what you meant.)

Are you talking about an older, pre-USB version of the Micro Express like found here at Reverb.com? That has no USB bus to power the other, so the answer would remain no.

Yes, that requires a Beige G3 or older Mac. Windows is compatible up to XP with the right cable.

$50? I got $65 plus shipping on eBay last year for mine. Worked perfectly.
