I just heard about a powerful earthquake near your city.

I hope you and yours are okay, brother!

I echo the sentiment. It is good to see you, Frodo. Communications there might be spotty, so patience is probably called for.

Thank you for asking, my friends!

I’m still shaken but Ok. This one was quite violent. I don't remember feeling a stronger one ever.

I have no power, and internet via cel phone is coming and going. I am still finding out about the damage to our cities. It looks very bad! :(

:D

Thank you so much for your concern, guys!

I was surprised it was only a 7.1. It certainly felt much worse than that. And the NOISE! It makes it even more scary, with that ultra low and loud hum.
It fell much worse than I remember the one in 1985, even if it was a full Richter scale point below.
This one apparently started being trepidatory, and ended as oscillatory. I really felt the side motion, to the point of becoming sea-sick with out the sea.

I'm glad the damage has not been reported to be as bad as it was in 1985, although casualties have been mentioned.

Power has been restored in my neighbourhood. The only damage I got were 2 of my slave monitors' bases got messed up. They almost fell down, but the monitors below sort of held them in place.

MLC:
I hope we do not get any earthquakes reflecting the current DP version... Can you imagine what a 9.5 quake would do to a city?
If that ever happens, R.I.P... no more amigo Fernando from MOTUNation. Hell, no more México from América...
... And the only thing preventing that from happening is just luck. Luck that the tectonic plates usually stay calm and still.

Thank goodness you're ok. That's all I came here to find out. So... keep on truckin', my friend.
The disasters are just spreading all over. I have friends near the fires in the West. I have a friend who just lost "nearly everything" on Tybee Island from Hurricane Irma. I have friends and relatives who took water in the Houston area floods.

A few years ago, a wildfire burned down all the fences on our ranch, and continued to burn for about a hundred miles. Maybe 60 miles... I don't remember now, but it took houses and barns in its path. Took two of our barns, but we didn't use them much, having better ones elsewhere. Of course, we have friends of friends who lost homes in tornados in Oklahoma a year or two ago. And I was staying with a friend in New York a few years ago when a hurricane smashed into Princeton, NJ and traveled up the coast and Hudson to Manhattan, ripping some huge trees out of an old park on the upper west side just down the street from her apartment.

I came down and played with the Mexico City Symphony after a huge earthquake in... 1985? I just remember that buildings were leaning against each other as the limo drove me from the airport. Devastation was unbelievable. I hope things are better this time around.

The truth is simple; natural disasters are always going to be there. We live through them, we survive and bury our dead, and we rebuild. That's just what we do. It's very important that all people in this world help each other. If we can't do that, then what are we? Nothing that I want to be. Everyone remember: if today's disaster didn't get you, tomorrow's just might. Everyone do what you can, even if it just means getting out of the way of those who help. Clearing a path is important too. But God bless those whose feet take them to our disasters — anywhere — to help. When you hear of a truck loading up to take stuff to the victims, throw in some cans, blankets, towels, unopened underwear, socks, mildly used shoes, stuff you pick up at the store every week to use like shaving cream, soap, toothbrushes, eyeglass cleaner, you name it. There's usually a list of things posted somewhere. Trucks were leaving every day from Dallas to go to Houston after Hurricane Harvey. Not sure what we can or should send to Mexico City, but stay tuned. You'll hear if they need us. And if you hear, don't wait for next time. Be the first in line with a box of stuff.

Yikes, just found out about this as I was off-line most of the day until now. Earthquakes and hurricanes, oh my! And with all the travels I did from '96 to '13 before I slowed down, I know people in almost every location affected by recent disasters. I'm on edge constantly.

Anyway, glad to hear FM is OK. I haven't checked the news yet but am hoping Mexico City's excellent building codes helped it survive and minimize losses.

I spent a week in Cuernavaca in late '04, '05 or '06 (I forget which), and am also concerned about people in that town as the structures are quite old and it's near the epicenter.

All of you folks are the best. It's quite humbling.

FM--- glad you're okay, brother.

Caring about people is not a bad thing. Pay it forward.

Glad to hear you're OK, FM. Up my way, we just dodged a bullet with Jose but there's another one right behind it. Lotta "stuff" going on. Lotta people in need. Time for people to come together.
