Mac OSX 10.13 Public Beta

Some news that I think will be good for us all:

I'm currently running Macintosh High Sierra (OSX 10.13, build 17A306f), and it's working fine with DP. In fact, it seems to be working fine with everything except MS Word for Mac, which has a printing problem (it runs fine unless you try to print the doc which causes a quit and an error message).

But if no major changes are made (unlikely at this point), High Sierra will support DP A-OK. Unless there's a conflict in a function I never use, it's going to be fine.

What version of Word or Office are you using?

This article from Microsoft is absolutely no help.

No surprise that the MS article is no help.

It's MS Word for Mac 15.24.

Worse than just quitting and telling me it won't do that, it also seems to make a new, corrupted version that Word itself can't open, and that's the one that starts appearing in the "Open Recents" menu.

But other than that, it's running like a champ, and DP's CPU usage seems radically lower, according to the Processing meter.

Now THAT is interesting!

Yikes!

It's been a long time since I've installed an OS update on another drive because I have to test compatibility with a critical app (I can live without Word but can my day job?). Thanks for the heads up.

Word is not essential for me, either, although I am very, very familiar with it.

The beta also seems to have some problems with online connections. Don't know if Safari is a problem, but Chrome gets the jeebies and Firefox will freeze and lock up the entire machine if it catches a wild hair.

I am typing this from the comfort of 10.12.5, waiting another 3 minutes for the combo update to 10.12.6 to finish up. I still think this looks like good news for we Unicorners.

Agreed.

Chrome and Firefox will catch up, no doubt. I hope I don't have to update Word but, if I do, that's life.

The only other legacy app that concerns me is Acrobat Pro X — I hated XI and shudder to think what the current version is like. I still use Elements 6 and prefer it to 15 which I also have but, if Elements 6 no longer works, I can live with that.

In anticipation of High Sierra, I created a boot drive in Yosemite and loaded it with apps that may or may not have issues in OS 10.13. When released, I will update this drive first and see what does/doesn't work and will then decide if I can update my main drive or hold off for awhile.

The reason I chose Yosemite is that some apps will no longer install in later OS but, if already installed, work fine when the OS is upgraded.

For curiosity's sake, I also loaded it with DP 7.24, Toast 15.1, DSP-Q 4.4, TwistedWave 1.81, Photoshop Elements 6, Encore 5.0.7, Finale 2011c & 2014.5, FileMaker Pro Advanced 11.04 Office 2008 & 2011 and Acrobat Pro X.

The only apps I really care about are Office 2008 (or Office 2011 if 2008 no longer works in 10.13) and Acrobat Pro X but if the others are still good, that will be great.
