So, i have a 828mk3 firewire interface going from the firewire to a mac mini.

I have quite a few pieces of gear and im getting no audio!

I went and "dumbed" down my setup to the following:

-828mk3 via firewire to mac mini
-removed sub from chain and just near fields to main outs of 828mk3

When i plug in any instrument (guitar, synth, sequencer...), in the Cuemix software, i see the signal. I also see the signal on the 828mk3, but i get nothing.

Ive messed with the trim knobs for the input as well as the master and still nothing!!

PLEASE HELP!!! I have no idea what happened, but the only way i can actually hear anything is if i change the monitor status on an audio track in Ableton Live to "IN", but theres static and hiss and its horrible.

Does anyone know if the 828mk3 is dying and i need a new interface?

It could be bad. That's possible. I don't know from the description that you are giving.

A few questions — what version of the Mac Mini? What OS? How do you have it connected—be precise?

Do you have the MOTU drivers installed—what version/? If so, do you know that your Mini can see the 828? Does it show up in the System Profiler, Apple's Audio MIDI Setup and MOTU Audio Setup? If not, try resetting the NV RAM/PRAM.

Can you play YouTube etc. through Core Audio?

Connection:

-near fields to main outs on the back via xlr
-FireWire to Mac mini (2.7GHz i7 16Gb ram with 10.8 os)
-Roland JP8000 to input 1 on the front via 1/4"

I broke it down to the simplest chain.

Hi there!

You should route your master output according to where you connected your monitors, for example analog outs 1-2. You should tell Motu Audio Setup about this in the Main Out and Main Out Return.

The hiss maybe is coming from your guitar's or bass's pickups especially if they are single coil.


Check these two things and come back!

Getting same problem with same hardware.

Testing a mic on Mk3. Meter working on the Mk3 and in Cuemix interface input and output.

But no signal via Mk3 phone jacks. Tried every combo I could think of.

No audio on Mac, though System Prefs/Sound Input set to Motu shows signal level but no sound via phones or internal speakers.

Started up Logic Pro 10.3 and sound appears! Tried the RAM/PRAM reset. No difference. Logic is happy with the hardware input and recognises the Mk3

Macbook Pro retina late 2013 running MacOS 10.11.6 Hardware connection iffy, but did work in the past: FW400 cable to FW 400/800 adaptor to FW800/thunderbolt adaptor.
Motu audio setup shows driver: 1.6 71459

Details via About this mac/thunderbolt show only the adaptor. Firewire details shows unknown device: Vendor 0x1F2 Device 0x106800: Don't know if that is the Mk3.

I now leave my Phones output set to the same setting as my Main output in the Motu Audio Setup dialog to avoid confusion, as I've confused myself more than once trying to have that separate "Phones" mix output set up in Cuemix.
