I have a Eurorack modular synth but I've never used it for processing 'traditional' audio. My band is working on a new album and as a lark I thought I'd try running a line out and back from my modular system. It's been interesting using synth filters on an electric guitar track for example. I have 4 different modular filters that are completely different character from one another. Then of course there are a ton of modulation options, like just now I was gently modulating a Minimoog style filter with an LFO to get sort of an enhanced tremolo type sound- or I can get real tremolo from an LFO+VCA.

Nothing groundbreaking I know, just a thought for any of you that have modulars or patchable synths.

Lucky you. I have always wanted to experiment with this. Would love to hear your final results.

I'm working with it as you post- slowly opening a Moog-type filter during a chorus guitar part. Sort of like re-amping. About to try a Buchla-style filter. I'll post a snippet back here later.

A snippet as promised. I'm actually looking forward to using the modular as a different form of eq but it's fun to turn analog knobs in real time. Excuse the rough mix and scratch vox. The rhythm gtr slowly opens up with MOTM 440 filter at 18 db 3 pole slope. The 440 is killer. Based on a discrete Prophet filter IIRC. Nothing one couldn't do with a plugin but analog knobs are pretty fun.

Interestingly enough, I started demoing some filter plugins after your post. Although I don't know much about EDM, I have had a few projects that needed to have a EDM feel to it.

I was looking to quickly duck, shape or pump elements and found these plugs.

1-LFO Tool
2-Volume Shaper
I'm gonna try Mobius Filter next.

I tried to find something similar to these plugs in DP but haven't found anything that operates in the same/simple way. I'm sure I'm missing something. Anyway, these plugs are very cool and do the job...even if quick and dirty. Of course to bus tracks to a Modular system would be fantastic!! Thanx for posting Phil!

Jeff- Have you tried DP's multimode filter? I think I've used it once before but it happens to be on the next part the song I posted- to gnarl up a synth sound. There's also DP's pattern gate plug which you can set up for rhythmic and LFO effects. Automation is your friend. I own Soundtoys Filterfreak but it's pretty limited. I ran across a bunch of plugs that might be what you're looking for when I was Black Friday shopping. I don't recall any names though. Have fun!
