828 MK3 with OSX Sierra bugs

Hi,

Since I updated to MacOS Sierra my Motu 828MK3 isn't as handy as it was before.

First of all, firewire is history. Both ports don't work anymore. So, I switched to USB. That works mediocre. Each time when I wake up my MacBook Pro Retina 15" (mid 2012) it does see my Motu 828MK3 but there's no sound at all. When I try to play some mp3 or itunes or whatsoever, the system gets overheated and crashes. When I turn of my Motu suddenly everything starts to work again and MP3's can be played again with the internal soundboard of my Mac. When I put my Motu back on I get the same problem. The workaround for it, is that I have to restart my Macbook...... every time after I woke it up... so even after a small break....

This is really annoying. I got the latest firmware and software updated on my Motu.

Re-install and clean Macbook install is NO option as I can't take the risk because I'm in the middle of some important projects and I don't want to lose any plugins or something.

Any tips anybody?
Thanks!

temporary assist suggestion: disable sleep.

If your FireWire port is down, try resetting the NV RAM.

This was an issue for me between OS 10.5 – 10.9. Not been a problem for me since Yosemite.

Hi everyone,

Travis from MOTU Tech Support here. I just wanted to let you all know that we just released a new audio installer that should resolve this issue.

http://motu.com/download

Go ahead and get it installed on your systems and let us know what you think.

Hello,

I am running the latest MOTU driver on Sierra and my Mac is still crashing when going to sleep mode while the 828 MK3 is connected.

Is this going to be fixed?

What is your hardware and OS? How are you connected?

Be specific.

I am running macOS 10.12.1 Sierra on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014). I am using the newest MOTU Firmware and Driver.

The MOTU 828 MK3 is connected via a Thunderbolt to Firewire 800 Adapter and a 10 meter FW800 to FW400 cable. I tried to connect a shorter Firewire cable (2m) instead, but the problem is still there.

I assume both devices are okay and this is some incompatibility issue. I got no problems with the MacBook when the MOTU is not connected whereas the MOTU 828 MK3 is running fine on my old MacBook Pro (13" from 2010, with Firewire 800, El Capitan).

Thanks for your help.

I own a MOTU Ultralite MK3. I've installed the linked driver update previously, but am experiencing the same sleep crash issue. It is connected via Firewire -> Thunderbolt adapter -> USB-C adapter to my 2016 Macbook Pro running Sierra(updated). It crashes when the computer goes into sleep. If I turn off the Ultralite, no crashes. If I disable sleep, no crashes.

Here is the top of my crash report:

I'm getting the same crash as others with the Nov 1st drivers (1.6 71459). Running macOS Sierra 10.12.2 with an UltraLite mk3 on a mid-2011 iMac. It happens every time the Mac sleeps.

And why would anybody let a studio computer go to sleep?

It caused so many oddball problems with connected devices that I turned that off many, many years ago. I would advise you do the same.
