guys that were helping me with OMF

Post by tedtunes »

one more time please, sorry to be a pain, my last posting under the thread titled OMF error code 53, i asked if anyone had the definitive list of export requirements from PC based avid (avid expresss i guess) to DP 4.5 or any other release.
i am discovering more and more people are using these systems and i dont know EXACTLY what to tell them as i only get problems with this transfer although i am told it should definately work
as far as i am aware they need to follow this criteria:
OMF format 2
consolidate and embed all media (not video)
select my handle length
maintain the same bit depth and sample freq.

i change permissions
i drag into chunks from hard drive (or just try to open from hard drive)

any help - definitive list?
many thanks in advance
good luck DP'ing to all

i'm puzzled why you are changing permissions ?....i have never had to do that.

Also, do you have the older version of DP (4.12)? if you have i would suggest you try open the OMF with that package, as OMFs were solid in that version. If that works then you wil be able to save the new files as dp projects to open in your newest version. At least that way, you will have a better idea if its the omf or dp thats got the problem.

All the details you mentioned looked correct to me.

I have not upgraded to 4.5 because i need OMF usability, and it seems there are a few having trouble with this.

ps. if you want to email me directly with any questions, i don't mind.

I've just re-read the post and have noticed one thing that differs from when I use OMFs.

I DO NOT consolidate and embed. It uses more disk space, but it seems to work better if you just EMBED the media.

Also remember its best to keep the OMF file below 2gb.
