Device (Hard Drive) missing when using external hard drive

I was attempting to find the Machfive 3 library yesterday and I could not. The "Device," which in this case is the internal hard drive, did not appear in the list. Instead, I saw my external hard drive. I could not figure out a way to force it to find the Device. The only solution was to remove the external hard drive and then the internal hard drive returned as an option under Devices. Very odd. Any thoughts as to why and how to fix? Using this with DP8 on an iMac.
