motu people, I've an original 2408 and I wish (after many years) to use it with logic pro x with OS El Capitan on my imac. I've bought a thunderbolt to firewire adapter and a firewire 800to 400 adapter in order to connect but logic isn't seeing it. I've downloaded the drivers for the 2408 but with no luck. Should I persevere or is it time to bite the bullet and buy another audio interface? Thanks for your advice in advance!

sorry to mention the obvious, but make sure that the 2408 is selected as the interface for output in the sound icon of Apple's system preferences,... and see if audio from the internet or cd player is being routed to,,, and out of the 2408. If it is then Logic should see it.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news . . . That is not a FireWire device; it is AudioWire, a standard that predates FW.

A 2408 works only with a MOTU 424e Audiowire card on the PCIe buss of a 2012 or earlier Mac Pro (or a PPC Mac with a 324, 424 or 424x card up to OS 10.5). The older Mac Pro is the only Mac with a PCIe buss that also runs El Capitan.

This manual is for the 2408mk3. It won't help you but, scrolling through it, you'll see why it won't do what you want.

Because of a firmware issue, no AudioWire device work in a Thunderbolt to PCIe chassis either.

I bet you're right Mike,
I used to have one of those that uses a firewire "cable" but is not firewire. No adaptors will make it work, it is a boat achor at this point and reasonably difficult to even sell on eBay for more that the shipping costs. I failed to take note that Jock stated it is an original 2408.

A 2408, any version, does make a great standalone format converter ADAT–TASCAM or 8 tracks of either to analog (or vise versa). It can be used as an expander to another interface that way. Other than that…

Yeah, I had the original 2408 for years. It is not as Mike said a FW device. They used a FW cable but it is not. I got rid of my 2408 over a year ago because of no PCI slot in the new Macs.
