I just got 4 Samsung M2 SSD's and an Amfeltech PCI for streaming
my sound librairies (thanks Steve Steele)to be used in a RAID configuration,
this is my first time using RAID,
Any tips on things to be aware of for formatting?...
or is it just a straight up process in Disk utility?
Thanks.

Before 10.11, you can set it up in Disk Utility. Here's a primer about the various types of RAID arrays.

Your signature says you are still running OS 10.9.4. Know that version has a major back up and recovery bug that was fixed in OS 10.9.5. I do mean major—any guesses how I know?

Thanks for the link Mike,
I'm going to read up on it,
As for 10.9,4 , my guess is that you became aware of that bug
in a very unpleasant manner and that there was cursing involved,
please do tell...
I have been thinking about catching up when I have a little down time
(yeah right..), but then again everything runs pretty good, a few bugs and crashes but kinda known evil, that being said 10.9,5 seems like an easy one.

Long story short. There's a major data recovery bug that also affects Time Machine restores. Four different workarounds by senior Apple support engineers had one thing in common: none of them had heard of this and none of the solutions worked. After two weeks of hell, the 10.9.5 update came out and the problem disappeared. It hasn't returned.

The combo Updater is here.

Download, run and repair permissions before you depend on a RAID array.

Thanks a lot, good to know, I'll run the update,
I guess I was lucky never using time machine on that machine..
