locking transports
I'm having trouble locking the transport in DP8 with a movie I just received. The movie framerate is 24fps and I have
- set the movie start time
- lock to transport is checked
- set MENU/SETUP/FRAMERATE to 24
- set the counter to frames
No matter what I do the DP counter always runs fast compared to the movie's TC window. I've even tried the other framerates.
Any ideas as to what I should look for? Thank you!

Re: locking transports
Sorry, I figured it out. The problem is with the clip. It is 24fps but the TC window burn is 30fps.

That's a weird one! Good sleuthing!

You have to be proactive on frame rates with film editors. To save yourself headaches (and I've had several mismatched frame rate headaches myself) always ask the frame rate they're using in the cutting room and to send you clips at the same rate. So, in this case ask if the frame rate of the clip they're editing is indeed 24fps or something else. I found that this issue comes up often enough that I've included it's discussion in my film music seminars.

Btw, this applies to the sample rate of audio also. The last thing you want is for someone with low quality tools doing SRC after you've delivered the cues.

Re: locking transports
Thanks for the great advice. I'm going to make a point of doing that going forward. I'm mad at myself for not noticing the TC framerate sooner.

Re: locking transports
That happens a lot when editors use Adobe Premiere, the TC FX in Premiere is 30fps as default, it's easy to miss that when you drag the TC FX onto a clip.

Re: locking transports
Also be aware 24 is not the same as 23.976, be sure the picture is truly 24 or 23.976 before you get started. Again, always best to confirm with the editor as often times the reference file is output by an assistant who may or may not be as savvy as they need to be.
