Machfive 3, Mark79 & 96khz = unusable performance in DP

Anyone else experience this? I'm on a current top of the line Retina Macbook 15inch, 16g-ram etc... 44.1 works ok(even though there has always seemed to be a UI lag in DP when machfive's sample section window is open ). BTW, this is with 828mk3 buffer at 1024, only 1 MIDI track playing 4note chords. What the heck?

Hi, there's really not enough information. Are you tracking or in playback at 1024? What version of DP?

Are you manipulating the library or is it just triggering the VI? If the later, what happens if you load Mark79 into the free UVI Player instead?

I don't use VIs at 96kHz so I am not presuming an answer here.

Um... close the sample section window?

Playback, latest DP9, no manipulation. I have not tried free UVI, I will. Odd as the DP processor bar is only 10%(I know not accurate) I forgot to check activity monitor.

That's not what's causing this problem, I was just throwing that out there as another issue I've observed in general since having MV3 in DP.

The very large M5 libraries did this on my setup. Look in activity monitor and see if the apparent overload occurs with heavy disk activity. That's what I was seeing -- disk overload as it read zillions of samples, not CPU overload. I maximized the amount of RAM available to M5 in its setup, and had no subsequent problems.

Cool, I'll try allocating more RAM. That said, I'd assume the flash disk speed on these new machines would suffice for streaming. Actually, I'd think it'd more than suffice. Anyway, I'll try allocating ram and maybe even turn streaming off? Again, these are only 4-5notes of polyphony, so nothing crazy like 100.

Odd, I just tested playback with both Built-In 1-2 driver and Microbook II USB, same everything, no problem with playback. CPU usage a touch high but no lag no dropouts no DP warning windows. Plugged 828k3 back in and still get all those issues. So I guess the 828 is having some issue here, for some reason. I've done 96k on it before so I know it can handle it....hmm. I double check my driver/firmware is up to date.

Tried Machfive in Logix X with the 828mk3 .... same weirdness ... What the heck???

Clocking problem on the 828?

Maybe. I made a Technote with MOTU. Again, everything is fine on my other laptop running 10.8.2& DP9. Slower cpu and less ram and it works with ease. Leaning towards the 828 driver/os x 10.10.5/and 96k. Will let you know if I determine or hear about a fix. Thanks!

828mkIII ... FireWire or Hybrid? How are you connecting it? Latest firmware?

828mk3 hybrid. Connected via USB directly to Macbook port(tried both). I am not able to check firewire as I don't have FW->thunderbolt, but doesn't matter, USB should work. Firmware is 1.01, which I think is current.

Sample rate mismatch?

Well the photo I posted, that's the error I'm getting in logic. DP gives a few errors(CPU overload, MAS shutdown, some lower level error). In both cases I'm setting the host daw to 96k, nothing special. And again, works fine with other interface and the 828 works fine on another computer. I'm still leaning towards 828 driver bug in Yosemite.

I have none of the issue listed here:

Besides maybe the last point...

Just a followup on this. I've been having a back and forth with MOTU tech over the last month and they have been great at suggesting testing/troubleshooting etc ... I've ended up doing a complete fresh erase/install of 10.10.5 and DP. Setting my 828 to 88.1 or 96k, in an empty DP project, and playing back(even idling) causes overload errors and eventual MAS shutdown. MOTU tech has supposedly tested the 828k3 Hybrid in 10.10.5 @96k with no issues(not sure exact macbook, mine is current top of line) but I have to imagine this is some weird driver related bug. So yeah, sadly no solution ... yet.
