Hi All ! :)

Some questions for the gurus here :) .. about the RS-422 net cable..

1. what is the pinout of the Motu "net" cable ? (RS-422) Google-ing I got a confusing result, and even on Motu.com, it shows that RS-422 is a 9-pin connector
http://www.motu.com/video-products/v4hd ... erm=RS-422
(scroll down to the very bottom of the page), which looks preeeetty much like the old serial port connector (that's RS-232 if I remember well).

I've found a pinout, but from this I can't yet solder a cable, I'm afraid.. or at least, some advice would come handy..

Furthermore, another article that I found,
http://electronics.stackexchange.com/qu ... for-rs-422
says that different websites state different things.. :-/ (scroll down almost to the bottom.)

Has anyone ever (successfully) home-made a motu net cable ? Where can I find instructions / drawings ?

2. What's the (official, and/or slang) English name of the connector which is Motu's net connector ? (Yes, I know, RS-422 :-D .. but, does it have any other name on the market, in other products, other applications ?) In other words, how can I find (and order) such a connector (or ready-made cable), for instance in Radio Shack or other similar shop ? (Motu doesn't seem to sell such cable.. https://www.motu.com/store/accessories )

On Wikipedia I found that RS-422 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RS-422 is actually NOT the name of a connector, rather it's a standard, that "specifies electrical characteristics of a digital signaling circuit. Differential signaling can transmit data at rates as high as 10 Mbit/s, or may be sent on cables as long as 1500 meters."

Aaaanyway.. the point is, how can I either make, or order such a "net" cable ?

From MOTU:

The V4HD provides comprehensive video and audio synchronization features, including time code I/O, video ref with loop through, large front panel time code readout and RS-422 (Sony 9-pin) machine control.I would think that Markertek would be your best source for such things. If you are doing video and don't know them … well, you should.

RS-422 is a standard and, as is illustrated on the other link, the wires carry different signals. Does it mean that you can use a common RS-432 cable? Apparently not as Markertek sells a 432-422 adapter.

I have not worked in a TV studio in over 20 years. My knowledge on the subject is rusty at best, behind the times is far more accurate.
