Motu 828mk3 crackle and delay issue on Yosemite

Any advice here folks?
I run a motu 828k3 on a macbook pro 2011 with Yosemite.
The following crackling appears every ten mins or even more often on my Motu 828mk3. After this destructive crackling occurs (it can last 3 seconds to around 20) the delay of the audio coming in to my DAW from the motu (synths, drum machines) is put completely out of time and I have to readjust the delay settings, every time.
Audio example of crackling link below:

I've followed various online guides.... matched sample rates in daw and interface / increased buffer / lowered bit depth / tried different daw.
Had exact same problem with last interface (Edirol FA-101) but less severe, I thought it was broken.... which makes me think that it's my computer if it's been happening with two interfaces now. The same result occurs on my girlfriends mac (also on Yosemite). I have not tried it on a PC yet. No access to one.
I have tried various cables so ruled out a cable issue.
Latest drivers are installed.
I think it must be a yosemite issue?
Any tech savvy folk with some experience of this or any ideas on how to remedy?
Cheers:)
