Splitting Drum Track

I'm sure this has been asked before but I couldn't find it on here...! I have a MIDI drum track that was sent to me all in one track in GM drums and want to separate out each drum as its own track, but keeping the velocity, etc., for each "drum/note" when it's sent to its own track. Is there a simple way to do this in DP8?

Thanks!!

Check the manual for "Split Notes."

In the MIDI editor, you can double-click a particular note on the 'keyboard' to the left, that will select all instances of that note in the track. Cut, then paste to a new track. Simple.

Yes, but Split Notes will do it in one fell swoop. Even simpler.

Hmm- I just tried it, and didn't realize Split Notes could create a separate track for each note- Cool! How long has that been there (I started with version 1.22 of Performerâ„¢)?

Pretty cool, huh? Probably been there that long. I remember using it in System 6 on my Mac Classic.

The Drum Editor can be your friend here too.

The only problem with spilt notes can be when and if it interprets a controller as a separate note, at which point you have to be careful to ensure that controller gets sent to the right MIDI module, for example, hi hats often have data re op Ning and co trolling if a hat, split notes leaves a user with that controller data separated from the hi hat notes
