Nigel, thanks for the link - I was looking much more recently as I hadn't realised that the last Sibelius update was almost a year ago.

I suppose the positive thing about all of this is that it shows some major companies are still committed to developing music notation software, so it could be an interesting year or two. I was very happy with Sibelius in most ways, but am equally happy to be back with Finale, and await the update with interest.

I've managed to get the new Scorch plugin to work with Firefox, but still not with Safari - I've not spent much time with it though.

The main reason I keep a G4 is because I need Scorch to work. The other reason is to convert old files that I never got around to converting before so that I can open them on my iMac.

Certain pieces of sheet music on the various web sites for which Hal Leonard provides the back end cannot be purchased and downloaded any other way. Of course they're old, obscure and there's no other source unless I'm listening to a recording and transcribing. Much easier to keep a G4 around...

I'll try the latest version and see if I can get it to work - Firefox if I must. I still can't get PayPal to print shipping labels using any other browser.

Supposedly the latest version, released eleven days ago, now works in Safari, Chrome and Firefox. It now requires OS 10.7 or later. It's the first real update in eight years. About time. I hope it works. Interestingly, Snow Leopard users are pretty much out of luck.

Question: Is there a site where I can download some scores or sheet music to test the latest Scorch plugin? PD preferred. I have no current needs at SheetMusic+ to purchase anything in the format. Not a big deal as I'm not getting rid of the G4 anytime soon.

The Sibelius chat page is still very active; http://www.sibelius.com/cgi-bin/helpcen ... =3&guest=1 If you post a message there someone will certainly send you something.

The new Scorch plugin has been upgraded and is now working in Safari for me. Sam from Sibelius has posted a link to a test page on the site Nigel mentions.

Sibelius' test page is FINALLY working for me in both Safari and Firefox. What a long strange trip it has been...

In related news, PreSonus have purchased Notion:

"PreSonus has announced it has acquired the assets of Notion Music, Inc., a leading developer of music-notation software located in Greensboro, North Carolina. Notion Music's products include the Notion 4.0 composition software (Mac/Windows), Notion for iPad, Progression 2.0 guitar-tab editing software (Mac/Windows), and Progression for iPad."

Wonder if they'll integrate it into StudioOne?

Yes, that was interesting news, and encouraging as well for those who care about the continuing survival of notation software. From the Notion forum it looks like most users are happy (in sharp contrast to the way Avid's takeover of Sibelius was greeted), and expecting some sort of integration with Studio One.

Now isn't it time MOTU bought MakeMusic?

Make Music was bought in March for about $15M by LEAP. The press release gives the impression MM needed some capital.

Sibelius 7.5 has been released. Looks like Sibelius will live on! It's a good companion to DP though I can't but wonder why MOTU never kept Mosiac alive and developed.

Yes. They didn't make it easy to upgrade. I'm now finally on mavericks. Off topic: 10.9 did screw with Snapper. I also had to redownload Lame.
