Re-order MIDI Channel Assignments
Hello,
Is there a way to drag-and-drop the ordering of the assigned sounds in the actual Mach5 interface? For example, I might start a project with something like this:
A-1 Timpani
A-2 Timpani Roll
B-1 Snare Soft
B-2 Snare Medium
C-1 Bass Drum
But, later, want to add a MIDI assignment of B-3 Snare Loud. Currently, that would look like this:
A-1 Timpani
A-2 Timpani Roll
B-1 Snare Soft
B-2 Snare Medium
C-1 Bass Drum
B-3 Snare Loud
But, I'd want to drag the B-3 up to the other B's so it looks "cleaner" like this:
A-1 Timpani
A-2 Timpani Roll
B-1 Snare Soft
B-2 Snare Medium
B-3 Snare Loud
C-1 Bass Drum
I can drag up and down on the Track Overview easily. But, I can't figure out how to drag up and down on the actual Mach5 interface. Suggestions?
Thanks,
Aaron Guidry

Re: Re-order MIDI Channel Assignments
I'm afraid it is not possible. The same pain in as in Play software. Would be fantastic to have.

Re: Re-order MIDI Channel Assignments
Is that your own samples ?
I don't see the problem by moving keygroups on the mapping editor.

When looking at the Mach5 interface, I can assign MIDI channels to samples on the left side (A1 - P16). They are in a column where I can even add or delete channels. I'd love to be able to slide those assignments up and down to place them wherever I want, much like I can do with tracks in the Track Overview.
The samples I'm using are the ones that came with Mach5 and also the MOTU Symphonic Instrument.
I think "supersonic" might be right in that this is not possible. But, maybe somebody knows something we don't?!
Thanks,
Aaron

Well you can as well edit the mapping of the sound bundled with M5 or MSI.
Just go to the edit view, and edit the mapping.

Sorry, I don't think I'm as proficient at Mach5 as yourself. I'd need more detailed instructions. I'm not even sure how to go to "Edit View."hugy wrote:Well you can as well edit the mapping of the sound bundled with M5 or MSI.

Re: Re-order MIDI Channel Assignments
When you are in the main page (top header buttons), there is 4 different view
(top sub header buttons): Info, Edit, FX, Event.
Select Edit.
You're now in the main editing page. (this is the default when you open M5)
There is mapping view in the middle with some coloured zone which associate a key range to samples. You can move those to change the MIDI key assignments.
Hope this clarify things.

Re: Re-order MIDI Channel Assignments
I see.
I can move the MIDI key assignments as you suggest, but my issue is that I'm trying to move entirely different samples up and down the assignment column.
For example, A-1 is a snare; A-2 is a bass drum; A-3 is a cymbal. As I create MIDI channel assignments, I occasionally move on to B-1 (piano, for example), but then want to create an A-4 tom. A-4 ends up being below B-1, and I'm trying to drag that sample's MIDI channel assignment up to the A's so that all the A's (drums) are grouped together.
So, I might have at first:
A-1
A-2
A-3
B-1
then create A-4 such as:
A-1
A-2
A-3
B-1
A-4
but want to drag A-4 up so that all the A's are grouped together such as:
A-1
A-2
A-3
A-4
B-1
It makes things cleaner and easier to find A-4 when I'm looking at the Edit Page of Mach5.
Any help on that?

Re: Re-order MIDI Channel Assignments
I'm not sure if I understand the question. The OP's subject says "Channel Assignments" but if you are talking about assigning key-ranges, would a transposition map work?
DP let's you make note-for-note remappings in the transpose window. You can save your custom scale and load it as an insert into the mixer.

Re: Re-order MIDI Channel Assignments
Stubbsonic,
I understand key ranges and mapping, but I'm talking about moving/sliding the MIDI channels up and down the column where you assign them to samples.
Tracks in the Track Overview can be moved anywhere you want them. Slide them up; slide them down. I want to do the same thing with Mach5 after I've already assigned each MIDI channel to a sound.
For example, let's say I assigned Channels A1 - A5 in order, but later decided I wanted them to be reversed, Channels A5 - A1.
BEFORE:
Channel A-1
Channel A-2
Channel A-3
Channel A-4
Channel A-5
AFTER:
Channel A-5
Channel A-4
Channel A-3
Channel A-2
Channel A-1
How do I do that without having to re-assign? Is there a way to drag them up and down?

Re: Re-order MIDI Channel Assignments
my bad, I have missed the channel part of the question.
Well, in that case you only can change it on each part.

Re: Re-order MIDI Channel Assignments
Just to make sure I understand your question, are you asking about changing the order that parts are displayed on the left hand pane of the GUI?
This can be done by clicking and dragging parts.

Re: Re-order MIDI Channel Assignments
That's what I initially thought, then I spiralled into a pathetic state of confusion, hence my previous post.
At this point, I have absolutely no idea what's going on. I even thought at one stage that the A-1, B-2, C-3, D-4 thing was to do with virtual MIDI ports, adding up to the theoretical M5 max of 64 channels.
