Question about 1.5 upgrade.

So, is the BPM 1.5 self-sufficient or does it require the original library discs? One of my original library discs won't read and I wonder if the I got the upgrade this would be come a non-issue or if I need to order a replacement disc as well. For that matter. do they HAVE replacements for the original still?
