DP8 announced: 64 bits and available for Windows!
Snipped from elsewhere on the web:
"According to MacMusic:
MOTU Digital Performer 8 goes 64bit and Windows! That's the big news on MOTU booth.
"Magic" Dave has shown news effects (with a Vox AC-30ans some Electro Harmonix emulations), new skins, and 64bit mode on Mac OSX.
Finally, Motu also announces Windows Compatibility for Digital Performer 8! More informations very soon."
--------------------
Wow, that is HUGE news. DP just keeps getting better and better with each release, while Sonar has gotten a bit unstable and the so-called cross-platform DAW's remain a bit iffy on Macs. Maybe with the exception of the newer PreSonus StudioOne and of course the unconventional Ableton Live (very stable and nice interface).
I have quite a few friends who never got into DAW's but want to, and I've always had a hard time recommending anything to them on Windows. Now I can confidently recommend DP!

And I hear there are stiff system requirements... Certainly bye bye PPC, but what will we need to run this? Certainly not a Windows machine!!!

Re: DP8 announced: 64 bits and available for Windows!
O.M.G. And I'm NOT talking about 64-bit!
mhs, before you recommend DP to your Windoz-using friends, methinks it would be wise to see how well it works... As for me, this announcement comes at a most interesting time. I've been saving money for a new Mac Pro when they hit the shelves in late spring. IF DP really works with Windoz, I may have to consider what has always been unthinkable.
And I did that. And my mind started reeling.
Cheap computer. Upgrades. Lots of competition between vendors. Yeah!
Then... Maintenance and compatibility nightmares. New OS to grok. Yikes!
We're talking sea change here folks. I need some MOTU Haiku, STAT!

Re: DP8 announced: 64 bits and available for Windows!
The only way you can really contemplate this is to have a PC as a standalone DP box, spend the time to get Windows and DP all working and stable, and then leave it alone for a very long time. But, maybe not much different from experience over the past two years with OS X and DP.HCMarkus wrote:IF DP really works with Windoz, I may have to consider what has always been unthinkable.

HKMarcus needs some now.
Happy to oblige.
DP and Windows.
Something new to contemplate...
Now within our reach?
64 bit app.
MOTU moves to the dark side.
Gates of Hell so close?
Almost cut my hair.
It was getting kind of long.
Feel like an old man.
OK, I will stop.
But remember that you asked.
Careful what you wish!!

Loaded questions:
What's up with the state of MAS? MOTU set it aside for it's non-bundled instruments and plugins. Is DP8 now Core Audio and VST on Windows?
Really loaded question:
DP has been THE reason I've stayed with Mac. Now--- what do I--- how--- mmppgh...
