Ravel's prepared piano with Lutheal mechanism

Post by mhschmieder »

Thanks to an email notice about a new sample library released this month, I just discovered Ravel's secret:

http://www.mim.be/pleyel-grand-piano-wi ... from_i_m=1

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luthéal

http://www.bestservice.de/detail1.asp/r ... l_piano/en

I was hoping to print the description, but the vrndor's site scrolls inside an interfam frame so can't print.

For some reason, the realsamples website doesn't list it. I guess they no longer sell direct so don't bother.

I just shut my audio interface off before the email came in, so haven't had a chance to listen to the snippets.

The Wiki page on Prepared Piano seems to indicate John Cage was not aware of Ravel's earlier experimentation, but that both were influenced by Satie:

This latter point is reinforced by the following musicological article on Satie's influence:

Took a bit, but it's on our site now as well:

http://realsamples.com/index.html?d_650 ... ano297.htm

This particular library was priced for orchestras/institutes/producers, but we've lots of requests from musicians who couldn't afford it at the original asking price ($ 899.95 for the whole set). To accomodate that niche "mass market", we did a drastic cut. The library is available for $ 269.95 as of now.

Yep, good to see your site updated -- some of us were wondering if you were just using reseller sites like Best Service from now on, for hosting the full product descriptions and audio clips. :-)
