What color is your studio?

Post by SixStringGeek »

Mine is in a white room (rented office - came that way) and I'm finding it kinda sterile.

I want to paint.

Red seems popular - photos of Brad and radiogal's rooms were done in satanic red. Is there a color that puts you in a sonically creative mood? Posted pics of your room extra appreciated.

Non descript cream colour but brightened by some original Ron Wood silk screens of the Stones passed on by Ron Wood's son to a mutual friend, and 7 great guitars on wall hangers. Red is not a colour I would ever subscribe to - but I am not sure the colour of the studio matters that much - I have DP coloured like I want it with my own customised themes - that seems enough for me. As long as the studio is clean and relatively uncluttered I barely notice the wall colours......

Something between red and yellow, let's say light yellow-orange, is part of the most dynamic and pleasant surrounding to me.
That is to say : warm-dark ground, white ceiling, two walls white and two walls light yellow-orange.

Some attention paid to soft electric light is a concern too.

Should I mention a Lava lamp ?

Well, daylight is one thing, as my studio is flooded by daylight on one side from the wonderful Wiltshire countryside.

However, my drapes remain closed almost all day. My room is white. I also recently discovered these brilliant Philips Living Colors lights, so I can choose the colour and brightness, or have a them cycle through all the colours (all controlled with a remote).

So I guess for me lighting is actually more important than the colour of the room.... I like being able to change the tone and temperature of my work space at will.

Actually reminds me of discovering coloured light bulbs to customise my private space when I was a young lad at boarding school back in the dark ages........

Cheers

THOSE! YES! MUST HAVE THOSE! I love the idea of those. And I don't have to paint. :-)

I had no idea those existed. THANKS!

I am sooo jealous. I love the Stones. Just got Keef's new book "Life" and have made it through chapter 1. Looks to be a great read.

Indeed, day light is so powerful if security allows it. I'm a lucky guy for sure. Mine has daylight on two opposite walls. But no landscape, that is.

Do you have Altiverb? If so, don't forget that it has photographs of each space that it models. Most studios have several photographs. You might get some ideas there.

I didn't want my control room to overwhelm with extended use, so I went basically neutral (navajo white, Guilford Opal 394) with a lot of wood, for a nice cozy feel, and indirect natural light (north facing window) so I don't have to open a door to see if it is day or night.

So far, clients seem to like it. So do I. If you ever wanna' drop by, let me know!

PS: That Philips LED light sounds pretty cool... better than a lava lamp.

PPS: Dimmers on your lights can do wonders no matter what the color of your walls... just make sure dimmers don't add an undesirable buzz.

Much of my house is red, the rest various vibrant greens, purples, golds, oranges, but my tiny studio is various shades of grey.

I don't even have a scheme... or a studio, for that matter; just a music room.

So many wonderful-looking rooms (not just in this thread) of esteemed 'Cornies. Gotta love it.

Control room is a medium blue with canvas covered walls on 3 sides black trim. Recording room medium blue on two walls canvas drapes for two walls.

Lots of light - but, i can close the drapes and darken it for artist that prefer that mood.

I keep waiting for someone to post "Green - the color of money".
Not sure if it means money earned or spent - hopefully an appropriate balance.
