On DP7.1, I have to use Aux tracks to monitor what I'm recording. Isn't "Input Monitor" on audio tracks supposed to allow direct monitoring without auxes? If so, I don't get it. What am I missing?
I'm missing something.
Help?

Input Monitor shows you only a graphic representation what's going into DP. For you to "monitor" that, i.e. listen to it, you need to be concerned with output. DP doesn't know what to do with the input (from mics, synths, VIs, etc.) until you tell it what to do.

Re: How Do I Use "Input Monitor"???
HI dave I suggest some in depth reading of the manual is maybe in order.
Try Pages 222 for starters.
Cheers

Re: How Do I Use "Input Monitor"???
Are you talking about VIs? If so, you need to change the Setup-->Configure Audio System-->Input Monitoring Mode to 'monitor record enabled tracks thru effects'. I should work either way on physical audio inputs. One setting through plugs, the other setting clean. I have asked MOTU via feature request to somehow modify this behavior for VIs so that they work with input monitor without having to change mode. If you print everything, it's just way easier to bypass the aux tracks, input monitor through an audio track and hit record when you're ready. There are latency issues while tracking with the way it's handled now and I understand why - maybe some kind of low latency VI mode divorced from the regular buffer can be created down the road. Or maybe with the ever increasing native speed, it's not an issue.
