Re: Applied Acoustics Systems Ultra Analog VA-1 Bargain-$15
It's a nice synth, works well in DP7/SL, and that's a no-brainer price if it's the full version... Being entirely physical modeled, it's a bit too clean to be "Analog", but nothing that a vibey EQ or compressor plug, tape saturator, or re-amping thru an actual analog circuit couldn't take care of.
Go get it!

Hm, page doesn't load, and when I go to the AAS Ultra-Analog page on Audiomidi.com it comes up full price...

I just bought it. I can't even play keyboards. Well, I can play Cold As Ice by Foreigner but I have to do it on only the black keys This thing does sound cool though, and for the $15.00, I'll find a use for it somewhere.

Re: Applied Acoustics Systems Ultra Analog VA-1 Bargain-$15
Thanks for the tip, it is a no-brainer indeed. Wondering for how long the deal is open.
Just went shopping at Audiomidi and spent a nice $15 canadian (oups) us dollar on it. (It's funny 'cos AAS are just around the corner where I live and the Instant download delivery is $229. There must be something coming in soon.)
Kubi, you are right about the "analog" sound of virtual synths. That is why I have a stereo Fatman compressor (a tube one) normalized at the output of my Virus C. Every now and then I send a virtual synth out to it to resample in DP; if it is mono I use my UA6176 instead. It makes wonders to otherwise great and inspiring sounds that lacks that "je ne sais quoi" of true analog.
Cheers

Re: Applied Acoustics Systems Ultra Analog VA-1 Bargain-$15
Bought it from AudioMidi the other day and was surprised I didn't get slammed with CA tax. Maybe electronic delivery provides an exception.
Haven't received my serial number yet, but I'm in no rush, as I'm slammed. I listened to the demos first and was surprised, as I didn't recall liking this one when I tried it a few years ago.
At any rate, my recent experience with the electric version of Strum has found me more confident of AAS' future direction, so I figured it's worth throwing $15 at them and seeing what they come up with next.
I sort of like the interface on this one, even if the anal retentive in me wants to fill the gap on the second row of controls.

Re: Applied Acoustics Systems Ultra Analog VA-1 Bargain-$15
I downloaded the demo and it sounded cool, but funny thing is really I have more VIs than I need. It's also worth mentioning that the presets will sound pretty good because nearly all of them have reverb built-in to the patch which always improves the impression a synth makes on you. Not saying it's not a good sounding synth btw...

Re: Applied Acoustics Systems Ultra Analog VA-1 Bargain-$15
I'm pathetic! Based on the comments in this thread, I ordered this synth sight-unseen. I figured for $15, why not? I give street people more than that. Let's just say that I helped keep a software company off the street tonight. Tomorrow I'll give it a spin and see what landed in my $15 net.
Hey, Waves! Get the picture? If you'll lower your Restoration Bundle to $15, I'll buy it instantly. Heck, I'll even go $20. Throw in the SSL's, and I'll do $40.
Well, I'm not going to waste your time any further. I have idea what I bought or how it sounds. It was a $15 synth, and I figure at worst, it's got to have more features than our bundled synths, right? Don't get me started about our bundled synths. I get some wonderful music out of them, and I'm not joking about that. They are highly under-rated. This will make a nice point of comparison.
Shoosh

That's funny! I'm glad you bought this. I was playing with the demo a few days ago and thinking that it had a lot of really great presets and the interface allows the user control over a tonne of parameters. After that recent thread where you were talking about how much you liked the MOTU's bundled synths, I couldn't help but wonder what you would think of this. It is definitely a nice sounding piece of software.Shooshie wrote:I have [no] idea what I bought or how it sounds.
