Ethno Not Working with Protools 8

I purchased Ethno back in January 2009. I tried using it as a plug in in Protools 8 and id didn't work. Motu support told me they were working on a fix.

I just called today and they still have no fix.

Will I ever get to use Ethno?

Is there any workaround to being able to use Ethno with Protools?

I wppreciate any help I can get.
Thanks.

Hi,

You can use UVIWorkstation to read Ethno sounds and it works fine in Protools 8.
It has all the features available in Ethno so you will just miss the custom UI

you can grab UVIWorkstation here:
http://www.uvisoundsource.com/uvi-works ... icles_id/8

It's freely available.

Still you need to keep Ethno plugin installed on your computer.

Hope this helps.

Any advice on using UVI with Ethno and Protools 8?

Not sure what you meant by keeping the plug in installed.

Thank you.

When I say you should keep the plugin installed it just means that you should'nt remove the bundle in /Library/Application Support/MOTU/Ethno

Regarding advice, It works directly, so don't require much advice imho.

Good luck.

So would I use UVI as a plugin within a protools session?

Yes UVIWorkstation is a RTAS instrument plugin just like Ethno.
And it's compatible with Protools 8.

I am somehow not figuring this out, and would appreciate a step-by-step explanation, if someone would be so kind.

I downloaded and installed UVI Workstation. Ethno Instrument is installed on my machine (OS 10.5.x). I read the various doc sets and Googled around looking for information on how to make this work. I figured out how to access the browser in UVI workstation, and have found the ethno.dat file and a bunch of .ethn files. I can't get any of those to load in UVI workstation, and I *know* I'm doing something right because I can get other sounds to load.

Assuming a standard EI install as described in this thread, *how* do I load the smegging EI sound files in UVI Workstation, running it as a RTAS plugin?

Thanks in advance,

Loren

There is one thing I've forgot indeed.
You need to either move or create an alias(beware that there shouldn't be the word alias in its name but the same name as the original file) of Ethno.ufs and Ethno.dat
located in /Library/Application Support/MOTU/Ethno/ into /Library/Application Support/UVISoundBanks/

Then when opening the UVIWorkstation Browser(using the Browser button on the top left or double clicking a part), on the left panel of the browser, you should see Ethno instruments and Loops listed.
click on one of those volume, then you can select a preset.

Regarding multi (.ethn), you should be able to load those using the load button in the multi panel at the top.

Hope this helps.

Yep...now I see all the EI patches just fine; thanks for the extra step! :) I would never have thought of that on my own.

And after a bit of additional futzing, I've got it making noises. :)

Thanks again! :)

Yes, and you've also got to remove the Ethno Instrument bundle from your MAS folder, if you're using DP.
