Experiencing Latency MBP 17

i got a MacBook Pro Intel C2D 17" 2.33GHz, 4(3 accessible) gigs ram, 7200 rpm hd and e sata lacie little big disk w apogee duet......when i load :

A samples in about 6 to 8 pads

B drumkit

C percussion

i start moving the buffer to 525 for latency maybe even 1024 to kill pops and crackling! my boy gotta quadcore desktop pc with m audio fw and NO problems. do i need that new unibody or a macpro or...?
