Anybody found a good E&O insurance company?

Post by toofar »

I've been trying to get quotes from MusicPro for Errors & Omissions Insurance (what they call songwriter's) for a long time now. I've never found a company so uninterested in a potential new client. I haven't quite given up on them, but any other recommendations?

Is this for songwriting work...or for film score work? if it is for music composed for films...you may be able to negotiate getting added to the film production companies E & O insurance for the work done for their film. That is what I have done.

If it is for your songwriting work in general, yeah...I don't know. It is kind of expensive if you do get it...and seems harder to get if one does not have an established industry track record. But it is out there...just keep looking.

Thanks for your input, Brian. Sorry I missed the fact that you had replied a couple days ago.

Yes this would be just as songwriter. Just trying to follow the advice of our attorney as a protective measure, but I'm starting to see what an expensive bit of protection this might be. We'd have to sell a pretty huge pile of CDs (which is highly unlikely) just to cover this expense, so it kind of defeats the purpose. Unless of course someone decided that they had some infringement case against us, however bogus it might be.

So does no one bother with this type of insurance around here? Or is it just for the big boys and girls among us?

For me...everything I have done is film score related and it is in my contracts that I (my work) is added to the production company's E & O insurance.

I know a lot of indie songwriter folks who simply don't get it because it is too expensive or don't even know they should.

This is starting to make a lot of sense to me, unfortunately.
