I don't like the GUI

Postby Splinter » Mon Jan 21, 2008 11:26 am

I know, I know, I know... It's different and I'm just opposed to change, blah, blah, blah. Good. Now that we've got that out of the way, time for intelligent conversation.

Actually, I like the design of the new GUI, but the "lighter and brighter" colors are a bad route to go. DP needs more contrast, not less. Sitting at a screen for hours I need thinks to pop, not blend in. I suggested years ago that DP would be much easier to work with if it looked more like CueMix. Enough said.

Well, it's good to see DP has FINALLY integrated OSX's standard "Open, Hide, and Minimize" buttons. I hope you can still breakout windows from the Consolidated Window.

FINALLY!!!!

Now there are 3 things in Logic I like that DP needs. A Better compressor, Better modulation plugins (chorus, flange, phaser) and an improved Delay plugin....

Otherwise DP 6 looks like it might drag me back into the fold after a SHORT hiatus... CPU efficiency is paramount.......... Lets hope they fixed that madness.

midi improvements

Postby quincyg » Mon Jan 21, 2008 8:20 pm

It looks like the took the complaints about illegible text very seriously. I hope the improved on the tiny little selection dots for midi velocity. I hate editing midi in dp. If the added a midi note mute and velocity tools I will be very happy. hope it doesn't crash. logic 8 is basically unusable due to the bugs.

Im glad they made some very good interface tweaks and make it behave better. Kudos for this ! I see the usage of better knobs, improvement on the mixingdesk (the buttons for the sends where a bit tiny), better layout, the use of a cardstack for the modes etc. Good stuff :)

Yeah, right... that will be easier on the eyes.

I love the new GUI. The Mixer looks much more standardised (even very similar to MIDI/USB controllers). Looks like there's emphasis on surround outs too, however the surround panners seem to be the same (which is fine!).

Gee MOTU make some sexy lookin plug-ins!
