Hey, Gary.
These critters like to make themselves at home in our homes.
They sit in plain view most of the time, seemingly aware that they're not in danger.
You can walk by 'em, sit by 'em, yell at 'em etc. and they won't budge.
There's usually at least a pair in da house.
They seem to eat anything that moves and is able to be caught.
I've noticed mine have caught crickets (indoors!) of late, along with cockies and the usual suspects.
Like the wolf spider, which we also have, they're hunters - no webs.
Guess that's why they calll 'em Huntsmen.
Cheers, bud, and remember: no monthly peyote treatments when these suckas are in da house.
At least, not if you value your heart/life/sanity or blood pressure.

No idea. My avatar is as far as I've been able to go.
Even if I had the know-how, none of my imageshack registration efforts has worked.
Cool pic, Josh; thanks.
That's no poodle; much closer to a wolf. Yay!
BTW you can get a dingo, coyote, fox, dog etc from a wolf, but you'll never breed a wolf from any of the others; they've all lost too much genetic info.
Sorry; ya'll are probably all over this one and have it licked.

How cool. I would love to give one to my kid to keep at the x wifes house. She's totally afraid of spiders and one like that would cause some amusing scenes. hehemonkey man wrote:Hey, Gary.

Not any more. The Hunties cleaned them up long ago. The Sydney Huntsmen is affectionately known in zoological circles as 'The Arachnid Piranha'. A pack of Sydney Hunties has been known to strip a fully grown timber wolf in less than a minute. Once these babies lock onto your quivering flesh......jgest wrote:forgive my utter ignorance, but are there wolves down under?

Ok l let me see, you feed poodles to spiders down under? Monkey grows pot plants and use spiders to keep away the pot stealing thieves? Do you smoke the pot plants with or with out spiders?
I saw an old sci-fi movie where radiation made giant spiders.

Has anyone been able to capture this on film yet?
I've heard they set up an opportunity at the Taronga Zoo and filmed a 2 minute, 35mm masterpiece.
Only problem was that the critters sensed they were being exploited and ate the crew for their main course.
Thanks for the pic. Are these Cedric's fangs as requested?
I wonder how the arachnophobic Unicorns are coping.
That shot should come with a health warning.

Yup. Wolf spiders love 'em.twistedtom wrote:Ok l let me see, you feed poodles to spiders down under?
Yup. We've got giant caterpillars, too, and they'll mow your favourite sins to the ground in 30 seconds.twistedtom wrote: Monkey grows pot plants and use spiders to keep away the pot stealing thieves?
They've been known to transform 30ft elm trees into piles of poo in 30 minutes.
It does take 3 or 4 of them to get the job done quickly, but still, it's kinda impressive.
The jumpers must eat them within 24 hours of hatching, else they're too big.
You should see the moths. 15" nose to tail, and they gather around my outside light by the back door.
I shew 'em away with a broom 'cause just one of 'em lays 5-10 000 eggs.
BTW, when they're done they don't spin cocoons, they spin yarns.
Well, you just place the new plants next to the old and gesture from the opposite direction with your hand.twistedtom wrote: Do you smoke the pot plants with or with out spiders?
The simply jump onto their new home.
As a bonus, there're no webs to contend with.
Still, if you want bud with teeth, there's that option too.
Have you heard about how big the bud grows down under, bud?
I'll let Geoff tell ya; he's no doubt travelled this great land more than I.
Well, we've the world's largest ozone hole.twistedtom wrote:I saw an old sci-fi movie where radiation made giant spiders.
Guess they've mutated somewhat.
Then there's that Aussie manliness to contend with (the ocker), so they grew larger cojones too.

Geoff, can you take a shot of Cedric's cojones?

Thanks for the info. I've searched Google for the Sydney Huntsman, and found an enormous amount of information about it. Well, actually a lot of pages saying basically the same information. But it was interesting stuff.
We have tarantulas here, of course, and at our Oklahoma ranch they're quite common. Those big guys get up to about 5 inches across, though they could stretch farther if they wanted to. Furry enough to qualify as a pet. Hmm... that MAY be why we don't have wolves up there. But we have coyotes and foxes. Maybe the spiders only go after the big dogs.
Used to have prairie dogs up there. Now, THOSE were interesting animals. A whole pasture might have been a prairie dog town, and their holes were dangerous to livestock who could break a leg falling into one while running. But I don't want to change the subject away from spiders. I swear, however, that the tarantula population has increased since the prairie dogs were driven away (not by us). I wonder if the prairie dogs ate them, or otherwise killed them?

Perhaps they ate the flies and other insects that were attracted to their poo, Shoosh?
I've eaten these critters as they've been in abundant supply due to my poo-flinging.
Just like adding a turbo to a motor, they've delivered second-hand nutrition to the apester.
OK, so I just flung some more. What's new?
